No beta available for my company

Several variables affect the calculation of the beta of a stock, such as the time period, the reference date, the sampling frequency for closing prices, and the reference index. If for your company N/A is shown for many betas, that means that there is not enough data for the beta to be calculated.

The first thing to check is whether there is a reference domestic index for your company. To do this, check the Beta section of the Market Data view under Company Data. No domestic index is available if there is nothing after the Ref label. In that case, you can try to use the Regional reference index in the Beta view or in the Beta Calculator under Comparable Analysis.

Another possible reason for missing betas is linked to the closing price history. The beta cannot be calculated for periods longer than the available price history. Likewise, illiquid stocks may have too few closing prices to allow the beta to be calculated.

If you notice that only unlevered betas are missing, check whether a net debt figure is available. Unlevered beta cannot be calculated for companies without net debt, such as banks or insurance firms.

It should also be noted that betas values outside the range [-0.5; +2.5] will not be considered relevant, and therefore will be shown as N/A on the website and in the Beta Calculator. In that case, the recommended workaround is to use one of the beta models provided with the Excel add-in.
